IMPD searching for driver who hit and killed woman riding bike on Indy’s near west side

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that left a woman dead Sunday night on the city’s near west side.

According to IMPD, just before 10:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of West Michigan Street and Grande Avenue on the report of a person down.

Capt. Rob Rider with IMPD said the caller reported a body lying on the side of the road.

Arriving officers found a woman who had been hit by a vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Capt. Rider said the woman was riding her bike on West Cossell Road when she was hit from behind.

Police said the vehicle fled the scene and are asking anyone with information to come forward using Crime Stoppers.

IMPD said they do not have any further information on the incident at this time.

On Sunday morning, a 9-year-old boy was killed and a 5-year-old boy was injured after a hit-and-run crash on the city’s northwest side. Hours after the incident, police arrested a man and have primarily charged him with leaving the scene of an accident causing death.
